GARGOYLES OF THE WORLD – UNITARIAN MEMORIAL CHURCH
New Release
Unitarian Memorial Church – 1 AVDP Oz .999 Fine Copper Round | Gargoyles of the World Series
Description:
Celebrate the craftsmanship of American Gothic Revival with the Unitarian Memorial Church copper round, an exceptional addition to our Gargoyles of the World Series. Located in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, this architectural treasure is renowned for its intricate stone carvings, including a remarkable collection of expressive gargoyles.
Struck in .999 fine copper, this 1 oz AVDP round measures 39mm and features a meticulously detailed rendering of one of the church’s striking gargoyles — a winged, feline-like creature perched with an intense gaze and sculpted musculature. Its majestic wings and imposing presence are captured against the backdrop of the church’s stonework. The reverse features the series’ hallmark design — an ornate gothic window motif framing the Gargoyles of the World title, crowned by a winged guardian.
The Legend:
Completed in 1904, the Unitarian Memorial Church was a gift from Henry Huttleston Rogers, a prominent industrialist. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, the church boasts stone carvings by artisan John Evans, whose gargoyles are admired for their artistry and attention to anatomical detail. These guardians reflect the medieval tradition of warding off evil while serving as functional rain spouts — a perfect blend of beauty and utility.
A distinctive collectible for admirers of Gothic architecture and the artistry of American stone masonry.
